Teaching Methodology


The DAV Kailash Hills nursery is an extension of the home in the real sense. Love and care envelop the new entrants as soon as they enter the portals of the school. Orientation programmes are held for new parents to brief them about the school ethos and curriculum. Through rhythmic activities, story telling, coloring, collage making , finger painting ,building with blocks, origami, flash cards and puppetry in the class room and outdoor activities like water play and sand play, swinging and sliding and climbing in the play area, personalities are gently shaped in the kindergarten.

Recognition of phonic sounds and vocabulary building, pre math concepts and hand and eye coordination activities prepare the children for Primary school.

Class 1 and 2

Special care is taken to strengthen motor abilities. Show and tell activities are used to enhance communication skills. Tangible and non tangible experiences  are given to develop sensory skills.

Music and Dance are introduced. Aesthetic sense is developed. Life skills are developed through good eating habits and values are inculcated through caring for plants, cleanliness drives, dress folding and shoe polishing activities and helping at home assignments. Good touch and bad touch are explained.

Vedic mantras are memorized by rote learning and children develop a sense of pride for their Aryan heritage. Birthday children are blessed by one and all.

 “Tell me and I forget. Show me and I remember it for life”.  Audio Visual aids and Smart Boards bring Digital technology to the classrooms and prepare the children to become future netizens. Computer is introduced. Assessment is comprehensive and done through innovative worksheets.

Class 3 to 5

The children are groomed to become responsible. Leadership opportunities are provided through monitor, buddy and prefect systems. Every child is put on stage during class assembly, national festivals, and school functions to overcome shyness and develop confidence. Moral Education is introduced in the syllabus and ingrained in the curriculum through value based activities and assignments.

Hands on learning techniques and project work suited to their age group  are used to promote concept building and learning for life.

Athletics, Taekwondo, Judo and Karate are introduced.

Recitation and story-telling activities are held. Class Library provides reading pleasure and moral education is imbibed through Panchtantra and Jatak tales.

Learning disabilities are identified and parents are involved at every stage. The School Counselor handles special cases with sensitivity.

Class 6 to 8

Memory retention techniques are introduced. Vedic Math , Ganit guru , Abacus are encouraged. Use of Dictionary and Computer becomes mandatory. Role play and group performances are practiced. Field trips are arranged. Social projects are taken up to make the children grow up to be responsible citizens.

Special workshops are arranged on Pre Adolescence and Adolescence issues, aggression and bullying.

Remedial classes are held for slow learners and performane enhancement classes are held for low achievers. Challenging assignments are given to gifted performers to keep them motivated. Efforts are made to inculcate  scientific thinking. High order thinking skills are developed.

Formative and Summative assessments are made under Continuous comprehensive Evaluation Programme of CBSE and regular feedbacks are provided to both the students as well as the parents.

Reading habits are encouraged through HT Pace and Newspaper in Education programmes of HT and TOI. Creative work, talent and innovations are duly recognized and rewarded in both curricular and co-curricular fields. Inter House and Inter Class competitions prepare our students for Inter school Competitions. Outdoor sports like Volley ball, Basket Ball, Hand Ball, Badminton, Kho Kho and Football are enjoyed by the students in addition to Indoor sports and games like Carrom, Table Tennis, Ludo and Chess.

Class 9 and 10

The emphasis shifts to ASL activities, CCE pattern is followed. Special Orientation programmes are organized for the parents as well as for the students to prepare them for Formative and Summative assessment, project work and development of Thinking skills, social skills, emotional skills, Values, Morals and character building is done. Career Counseling sessions dominate these two years. Problem solving assignments are given to the children to equip them with life skills. Social and global issues are debated upon and the budding youth are motivated to express their feelings through nukkad nataks.

Model United Nation is introduced. Interact Club activities provide a platform for serving the society and develop leadership qualities. Eco Club  creates responsibility towards environmental issues.

Class 11 and 12

Vigourous training is given in not only working hard but in working smart. Drilling of concepts is done. Thorough revision is done. Special assignments are designed in each subject. Extra classes are held before and after school to reinforce learning. Mock tests are held to give practice for competitive exams.

Home visits are made to check absence and truancy. Time management and Stress Management workshops are arranged in addition to Career Counseling. Personal grooming, Public Speaking and Personality enhancement workshops are held. Teacher – Taught barrier is broken and a Mentor-Mentee relationship is established.

Regular PTMs are held and Parents of Board Classes have special sessions with the Principal.

The school leaves no stone unturned in providing the best opportunities to our students and the Staff is always there for each and every one of them round the clock through personal blogs and help lines.

In keeping with Swami Dayanand’s ideology Vedic roots and Global wings are provided to each DAVIIAN.
