
Mrs. Ira Khanna, Principal of DAV Public School, Kailash Hills, is an alumnus of Lady Irwin School, Miranda House and Central Institute of Education, New Delhi. She possesses a Master's degree in English Literature from Punjab University and has been teaching since 1978.
In her student days, she won many awards for singing, dramatics, debating, declamation, recitation and story telling.
She joined the DAV organization in 1980 as a teacher of English at Hansraj Model School Punjabi Bagh and has been a part of DAV Kailash Hills family since 1994. She won the 'Outstanding Teacher' award year after year for cent-percent quality result of her students in the CBSE class XII Exams. Her leadership and organizational abilities reshaped the co-curricular programme of the school.
She has won Awards and Accolades from various organizations for her contribution to environmental and social issues, promotion of literacy, value based education, health and women and child welfare issues. The Delhi Nideshalaya Pariwar Kalyan Kendra recognized her efforts in carrying out pulse polio campaign in 2000. The Rotary Club bestowed the Outstanding Vocational Award for Excellence in the field of Education upon her in 2007. Avantika, an NGO honoured her with a State level Award in 2007, National Level Award in 2008 and International Level in 2009 .She has also been honored with Lions Club International Vocational award in Teaching in 2010. She received Rashtriya Sadbhavna Samman Award from Avantika in 2011and Spiritual Education award in 2011.
The Federation of Public Schools conferred upon her the Teachers' State Award in 2012 ans she received Dr.S.Radhakrishnan Memorial award for Teachers at National Level in 2013. Bharat Vikas Parishad honored her with Vishishth shikshika samman in 2013 and LIC of India also bestowed Outstanding Teacher award upon her in 2013. In 2015 she was honoured with State Award by the Deptt. of Education, Govt. of NCT Delhi and felicitated by Action Committee,Unaided Recognised Pvt Schools.
She writes meaningful articles for school children in the "Teacher's speak" and "Principal"s pen" columns of Times of India,NIE section. She is widely travelled all over the world and has visited schools in Korea,Japan,singapore,Australia,Europe and the US. She has made a comparitive study on educational policies practised in various countries and has promoted Indian methodology of teaching abroad.
Being a staunch aryasamajist,she believes that it is only moral education based on vedic values which can give "roots' and a world class academic curriculum which can give "wings" to the children of our country.
